Product Spotlight: AKAI MPK Mini MK3

If you’re looking to get into music production it’s hard to find a better deal than the AKAI MPK mini. This compact MIDI keyboard comes as a complete package with every tool you need to create songs from scratch. Now in its third generation, the MPK mini MK3 builds upon the great design of previous versions with an updated set of features that add even more value to this powerful MIDI interface.

One of the best parts of the MPK Mini is the plug-and-play connectivity – it’s ready for immediate production and performance right out the box with no drivers to install. It also includes everything needed to immediately start making music like the professional DAW MPC Beats, which is based on the classic MPC workflow. MPC Beats features all the essential tools for production like sample editing, track mixdown, world-class audio effects, audio recording, and much more. The software also has AU/VST plugins, offering compatibility with virtual studio technology. If you’re already using a different DAW, don’t worry – MPC Beats can open as a plugin in any DAW for integration with existing setups. Sample content from a variety of MPC Expansion packs and a collection of virtual plugin instruments add to the toolkit available for producers.

Even more upgrades to the MK3 are seen in the keyboard itself. The Gen 2 enhanced dynamic keybed delivers a natural and responsive key performance. The MK3 also features a new OLED display that gives visual feedback on parameters like velocity, CC, and DAW mode is in an easy-to-see location at the top right of the keyboard. You’ll also find 8 pads pulled right from the flagship MPC series that producers have enjoyed for years. The pads are bankable, backlit, and velocity-sensitive to ensure the perfect feel for finger drumming and sample playback. Then there are the knobs – eight of them to be exact. These rotary knobs are assignable to any parameter in your chosen software for ultimate customization. They have also been updated to endless encoders, allowing for unlimited rotation without physical limitation. Last but not least, the familiar note repeat, arpeggiator, and omnidirectional joystick are found on the left side of the keyboard.
